This short journey through Rishikesh, Bikaner and Gangtok with the ups and downs, the missed trains and taxi rides, the heartbreak and the mending of old friendships, the quarrels and self-discovery, sweeps Jaya and Yogi away, and indeed us...。该剧从邝南海小时候讲起，聪明机灵、敢作敢为的他将贪官南海知府捉弄得团团转，使30万两赈灾银子如数到了灾民手里。其后他接触了西方科学与民主文化，思想飞跃，先是鼓励姐姐素蓉放弃包办婚姻，又让婢女跟自己一起去上学，甚至冲破世俗观念，爱上一个比自己年纪大的女子陶桃……。本片主角是一个老实的银行职员，同妻子的感情不融洽，他还是一个业余画家。后来偶然结识了一个名妓女，受到她的勾引。为了满足她的要求，甚至撬了老板的保险柜。在一次争执中职员失手杀了盘剥他的妓女并只身流浪街头。尽管如此，他还是尽力帮助一个贫困的少女，直到他本人被捕判刑。。
